A long, long time ago, I was one of the co-creators of "Buzznet Originals".
I am offline more often than not, savoring the delicious righteousness of the fact that the original ' originals' are all pretty much scattered to the four offline winds, same as me.
If anybody still cares, all we wanted to do was to recognize people who spent more time documenting and sharing their own individual visions than copying, emulating, trash-talking or debating the relative merits of, mass-produced pop culture.
We were a hobo-camp of producers among a prom night afterparty of consumers. We wanted a safe place to ignore the groups, the forums, the flame wars, the butthurt 'why wasn't I 'featureized' rants, the blogitics, the compulsory mandatory commenting, and the mass messages, bulletins and addbots. . We took pictures, and wrote things, and enjoyed thinking about them and sharing them together.
That's it. That's all.
Oh, stop rolling your eyes, this isn't a 'why I'm leaving Buzznet' post : ) - obviously, I never left.
What I have left, because I never was a part of it, was the competitive and combative subculture that started when we thought more about the recognition than the process. I don't miss that at all.
I'll be here as long as the Shadow Buzznet still is.
If we don't see each other here, I'll see you out planting trees.
